This blog is on Jenny Langer a singer, from Washington DC. Jenny is a member of The Blues Hall of Fame ® and a entertainment producer, concert curator and award-winning songwriter. I found Jenny from listening to Gil Anthony’s radio show Blues Power. Gil played her song “Biscuits, Bacon and The Blues” and I was hooked. This is a song that Jenny does with her band Moonshine Society. The band has won two Wammies (Best Blues Album, Best Blues Band), the Int'l Blues Challenge Winner (IBC- Best Self-Produced Album) and spent 6 weeks as #1 on Blues Rock Album Radio Charts in (2019). Jenny also does a duo show with Bobby Thompson, I have heard them a couple times. They are really good, love how their voice work so well together. You can also find Jenny on stages with a number of groups including The Ron Holloway Band and The Honey Larks. Jenny has such a strong Bluesy voice with a lot of raspy sound and a whole lot of sultry tones to it. To me she can definitely hold her own with some of the greats like Etta James, Sarah Vaughn, Muddy Waters etc. Jenny actually does an amazing version of Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind”. Jenny also has a stage presence that will just get you up out of your sit and start to boogie on the dance floor. Impassioned, soulful singer and songwriter Jenny Langer has shared the stage with such musical greats as Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and Jack Pearson of Allman Brothers fame; Susan Tedeschi of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov't Mule, The Nighthawks, Ron Holloway, and Jimmy Vivino from Late Night with Conan O’Brien. She is all-commanding in her on-stage deliveries and becomes pure sorceress spellbinding audiences with her searing hot vocals. Langer lives in Washington, DC, grew up in the California Bay Area, and is often mistaken as a native of New Orleans. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, she co-founded the award-winning blues band Moonshine Society which has toured the world bringing American roots music to intrigued audiences.
When not near a stage, you can find Jenny in virtual classrooms teaching Artist Management courses and mentoring young musicians. I was able to ask Jenny some questions, here are her answers. 1.How long have you been playing music? I have been playing piano and singing on stages. since I was five. 2.How many bands have you been in? 3 original music bands, 3 rock/pop cover bands, 2 wedding bands = 8 bands. Aretha Franklin, The Allman Bros, Nancy Wilson (vocalist), Dinah Washington, Johnny Winter, Dr. John, Betty Davis 6.What style of music do you consider yours? Learn as much as you can about all facets the industry from anywhere you can, including classes, books, internships, live events, volunteering for festivals, attending conferences, video tutorials, Clubhouse. You can be the juiciest peach on the tree, but some people just don’t like peaches. 9.Do you write your own songs? Yes, I do, but I’m also not afraid to take a turn at a cover song and give it my own twist. 10.What would people be surprised to hear. that you have in your personal song collection? When I just feel like dancing by myself, I’ll put on bachata mixes. I also have several LPs of Middle Eastern belly dance music. My mother was a belly dancer when I was a kid, and I was around live bands playing that style of music. The percussion especially puts me in a good mood. https://www.moonshinesociety.com/ https://www.facebook.com/moonshinesociety https://www.jennylanger.com/
