Lauren Anderson
“Love On The Rocks”

Lauren Anderson just came out with a new album “Love On The Rocks”. I am huge fan of Lauren; she has such an amazing voice. She can belt out the rockin’ songs with such powerhouse vocals. Then go into the next song which is a Ballad and give it the same conviction.
So, this is my review of her new album. Well, I have to say that starting off the album with the song “Keep On” is a genius choice. This song really shows the depth and range of Lauren’s voice. Then you go into the title song “Love On The Rocks” which is a Soulful/Rocker. Lauren really puts some hard emotions into this song, which makes you feel what she is saying. Next song is “Back To Chicago” a Bluesy/Rock song with help from Mike Zito. On this song Lauren shows her ability to be able to belt out some solid Blues.
I am not going to go thru all the songs, I will let you listen an enjoy them for yourself. I just want to get the first few songs noted. I will talk about two other songs #5 “Holdin’ Me Down” this song Kinda has a Pop sound to it. Showcases a bit higher range to Lauren’s amazing voice and then pulls out the powerhouse voice at the end.
The last song I will talk about is the last song on the CD #9 “Your Turn” I personally love when Lauren does songs like this. Because it shows how beautifully she can sing a Ballad.
I have every CD that Lauren has put out, which most of them has been EP’s. My favorite to date is “Won’t Stay Down”. I would have to say that this new CD “Love On The Rocks” is my new favorite CD from Lauren Anderson.

So, I highly recommend going out and purchase this album for your collection.

This Blog is about Pam Camp, Pam may not be a St. Louis native but she most definitely is one of St. Louis’s Music Icons. Pam’s voice is well known thru out the city. I first saw Pam perform at BB’s in St. Louis as a backup singer for a benefit show. There were a few moments in that show she got a chance to sing solo, it was amazing. Pam has one of those voices that has a wide range of tones and can sing any style of music and make it sound beautiful.
Pam has a solo album; on this album she sings “At Last” which to me is my song that I use to see how well a singer can sing… I can say that Pam pulls it off, with an amazing rendition of this song.

I first met Pam when she did a House concert I produced. It was very enjoyable to finally see Pam as the main singer. Besides being such an accomplish singer, Pam is also one of the nicest person I have ever met.
I hope to have Pam back to do another House concert. If you ever get the chance to go hear Pam Camp sing, I highly recommend it.

Here are some questions that I got a chance to ask Pam.

How long have you been playing music? My Mom used to tell the story of me singing and doing the twist in my crib, when I was around a year old, so I guess I had a need to sing early on. Some of my earliest memories are of my family and I singing in church together. I learned to sing (and sight-read) on those old gospel hymns, and from listening to my grandmother’s strong alto voice. My first “professional” band was formed in 1989, we played mostly classic rock, with a touch of blues.
How many bands have you been in? If I’m counting right, I’ve been in 9 different bands over the years. Past groups include country, blues, gospel, and jazz. I worked as a demo artist for a soundtracks company, and pageant productions for many years. My taste in music is diverse. Currently I’m in 3 different groups - Sisters Magnolia & The Weeds, original California Country/Southern Rock music; Campfire Trio, Soft Rock, Folk/Americana; and a classic rock duo with Jeff Walschauser.
Where were you born? Fort Smith, AR
Are you self-taught? Yes, and No. I believe my voice is a gift, but it is up to me to hone my skills and work at always becoming a better musician/vocalist. I learned a great deal about the voice from my high school choir director, Bill Cromer. He was Director of an audition-only choral group I was in right out of high school, so I had the opportunity to learn from him for about 6-7 years. I think the learning should never stop. I try to always go outside of my comfort zone to try new things - explore vocally.
Who are your biggest influences? Linda Ronstadt is a close second, right behind my Grandmother, Martha Snow. I feel fortunate to have grown up during a time when TV shows like “The Carol Burnett Show, “Hee Haw”, “The Midnight Special”, “Sonny and Cher”, “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour”, even “The Lawrence Welk Show”, were popular - they had a lot of great music that I was influenced by.
What style of music do you consider yours? No matter what I sing, it usually comes out sounding country/bluesy.
What was your first gig? My first paid band gig was with “The Pam Camp Band”, in October of 1989, at a place called “Chevy’s” back in Arkansas. We went on to become a well-known regional band, playing Hot Springs, Little Rock, Northwest Arkansas, and Fort Smith areas.
What advice do you have for someone starting out in the music business? Never stop learning, growing, and challenging yourself. Explore music outside of your most-liked genres. Embrace your uniqueness, but always be in it for the song. Use your gifts for good.
Do you write your own songs? I’ve never considered myself a songwriter, more of a poet, but I have co-written several songs over the years. I think I have a gift for interpreting songs well.
